Love the place food was awesome and the margaritas were excellent also! Our waiter was super and the price was unbeatable!!!!Would recommend if you like Mexican !

Very good al pastor. Guac and pico were not very spicy but prob spicy enough for Effingham. (I'm from South side Chicago)

Best Mexican food. So yummy!!! Fresh salsa warm chips to start it off right. Than we get a nacho and share it with a few amazing fish tacos. Stop here every time we come threw favorite place to eat in Effingham. Oh you have to try the fajitas there so yummy with homemade tortillas.

That could do better on prices.

Gave this taqueria a try and I am extremely pleased. I'm a Marine veteran and lived in SanDiego for years eating Mexican/Chicano/SouthAmerican cuisine that grossly shamed ElRancherito and PuertoVallarta restaurants; TaqueriaDonPedro is right on point with the best of the best. Delicious burrito Carne Asada, Arroz Rojo, and refreshing aqua de jamaica (Hibiscus Tea).

Great food! Their house made green sauce is amazing! I put it on everything. Love the street tacos with the homemade corn tortillas and al pastor, chorizo, steak, shrimp and more. They have about 8 fillings and all are good! Certainly best Mexican restaurant in town and best for a long way around Effingham.

We all got the steak tacos, rice and beans. The tacos were authentic and delicious. Rice and beans were okay. They are expensive for Mexican food though. 1 taco was $2.25 it was $55 for 2 adults and 2 kids to eat and we had water to drink. It's almost impossible to find authentic tacos in Illinois, so good job Don Pedro for getting it right.

Great little Mexican place just off the highway and near Lake Sara. Tasty food, frosty margaritas and plenty of beer. The place is very accommodating for large families, or if you're flying solo and want a quick lunch. Thumbs up all around.

Amazing little place!! Tacos are the best here. Must try the sope. Staff is wonderful, polite, and friendly. Close enough to the truck stop to walk to.

Great specials. Friendly staff. Excellent Tacos. Guac just ok but pretty inexpensive compared to other places. The menu offered slightly different options than most Mexican restaurants I have been to. (Picture of specials from June 1st 2018 so they could be different at this time)

Went with a group of people. It was our first visit. Most of them ordered various chicken items. I am not a big fan of chicken items. I wanted beef. The menu item with ground beef says it has potatoes in it. I have never heard of a beef taco salad that has potatoes in it, but thought I would try it. It was horrible! There was more potato than beef! Its as if they just wanted to feed you cheap potatoes instead of real meat. Will not go back. It was just plain awful!

A nondescript but clean establishment, Don Pedro has a good menu. Portion size of the verdes burrito was huge and presentation was appetizing. It was tasty, with tang. Cost was minimal. Overall, Don Pedro offers a very good deal for those willing to drive a few blocks from the interstate.

I had a great experience. I got the quesodillas and they rocked. I liked the quacamole that came with it. My boyfriend and his mom were really happy with their food too. The salsa they brought out had really good flavor to them.

BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN EFFINGHAM!!!Essentially this is food your grandmother would make if you grandmother was from Mexico. Great authentic meals with many choices of meats. Great staff! You are with family when you dine here!

The food was delicious. The Carne Costena tacos being my favorite tacos. The Caleta Burrito with rice, no beans and no lettuce is amazing! The rice was perfect and complimented the shrimp in very powerful ways, meaning, it compelled me to go, Yum!The salsa is a little mild for my taste, but they included this avocado base and chili creme based salsa that was the perfect compliment to and with the salsa.The owner checked to make sure things were cared for. And personal service is one of the things I love most about local businesses such as this. They will go out of their way to accommodate your needs the best that they are able.They will deliver to the lobby of your hotel if you are near their restaurant. I would not hesitate to order in, take out or have delivered for those nights you want to eat but not cook. When you want something fresh versus mass produced or greasy. Very good business with thoughtful people who will cater to your needs.

Food was meh got upcharged $.50 when I asked about it she did take it off but stated in a rude tone it does say prices are subject to change. That evening the person I ate with and I had sharp stomach pains all night. Ill never be back.

We enjoyed our dinner @ Don Pedro veru much. The food was superb. Flavors were exquisite. Not all the items ordered tasted the same which is sometimes the case @ ethnic restaurants. We arrived early so we had great service. We observed the staff arriving before the crowd & liked that they were well staffed. The dining room filled up fast before we left. Our first experience was wonderful.

Not only is this the best Mexican food in Illinois, the staff is legitimately amazing, and the atmosphere is more authentic than the Mexican restaurants that try to feel like a tour of Mexican tropes.

You ever eat somewhere and just can't fathom the meal ending? This place will give you that time and time again! Carne Asada is my jam... get it smothered in grilled onions and red sauce. Don't be afraid... it's worth it!

Lets see where to start.. We walk in and the waiter couldn't be bothered to even stand up and greet us. The chips were ok but im not sure if I was eating salsa or tomato paste. No flavor but tomato.. On to the fajitas , very very bland no flavor what so ever. I suspect the peppers were previously frozen , the quacomoli again no flavor , the rice was ok and the beans were pretty good. . all in all I don't know how this place has a 4 star rating. I have been to Mexico on several occasions and a real Mexican restaurant would be ashamed to serve this and call it authentic.

I would give them 10 stars if I could AUTHENTIC Mexican food.

This is a good place they make their own corn tortillas and all tacos are good fish tacos are good. I'm from Kansas City and stop by when driving by. I don't know if people in Effingham know what they got. I travel all over and enjoy Mexican cuisine and this is worth stopping for.

Stopped in while driving cross country, entrigued by positive reviews. We were not disappointed! Food was excellent with many dishes I don't typically see on standard menus. Anna our server was great and encouraged us to tailor special requests not listed on the menu. I highly recommend making Don Pedro a don't miss stop!
